Medical inflation in India runs at roughly double general inflation. A good health policy gives your family cashless treatment at network hospitals, covers pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses, and restores your cover if it's used up. We compare plans on what actually matters — room-rent limits, co-pay clauses, waiting periods and claim record — not just premium.
What we compare before recommending a plan
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Room-rent limit | A capped room proportionally caps the entire claim |
| Co-pay clause | You pay that % of every bill — avoid if possible |
| PED waiting period | 2–4 years typically; shorter is better |
| Restore benefit | Refills exhausted cover in the same year |
| Claim settlement record | The number that matters when it counts |
Premiums depend on age, health and cover chosen. Claim-settlement figures are indicative public data — verified at quotation.

Frequently asked questions
I have corporate health cover. Do I still need my own policy?
Yes. Corporate cover ends when you change jobs or retire — often exactly when buying fresh cover is hardest. A personal policy bought young stays with you at lower lifetime premiums.
Are pre-existing conditions like diabetes covered?
Yes, after a waiting period of typically 2–4 years depending on the plan. Some plans shorten this with a premium loading. Never hide a condition — it risks claim rejection.
What is a family floater?
One shared sum insured covering the whole family — usually cheaper than individual covers. We recommend a separate policy for senior parents so their claims don't exhaust the family's cover.
How does cashless treatment work?
At a network hospital, show your policy card at the insurance desk; the insurer settles directly with the hospital. For emergencies at non-network hospitals, you pay and reimburse — we assist with both.
