About this calculator
How is FD interest compounded?
Indian banks compound FD interest quarterly by default, which this calculator uses. Payout FDs (monthly/quarterly interest to your account) earn simple interest at a slightly discounted rate.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes — interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab. Banks deduct 10% TDS when annual interest crosses ₹40,000 (₹50,000 for senior citizens); submit Form 15G/15H if your income is below the taxable limit.
How do I get rates above my bank's?
Small finance banks and highly-rated corporate FDs often pay 1–1.5% more than large banks, while staying DICGC-insured (banks) up to ₹5 lakhs. We help you ladder deposits across institutions for the best safe yield.
